So when we came across this adorable home in Hinton, West Virginia—which manages to be all three of those things—we couldn’t help but fall in love.

This three-bedroom, two-bath contemporary log Victorian home was constructed in 1990 using repurposed antique hand-hewn logs dating back to the 1850 era of the Homestead Pioneer Days.

The logs were salvaged locally from a cabin in the community of Forest Hill in Summers County, West Virginia, along with many hand cut vintage stones. These stones were also repurposed into the chimney, fireplace and rock wall terrace landscaping.  A two-car garage with 900 additional square feet and storage space is attached.  Total living space is 2200 S/F.  The large front porch measures 24′ x 8′.

The circular driveway approach to the home adds eye catching appeal as you drive past the barn and pond.  Underground power provides clean crisp views of the countryside acreage.   An exclusive showcase home reminiscent of the early European country dollhouses crafted with exotic woods, fabrics and fine furnishings.

The first dollhouses were developed in the early 1500’s by master craftsmen.  They were prized possessions and a symbol of wealth and refined taste.  These wooden models often included barns, fencing, tools, miniature pets, wildlife, horses and livestock. The dollhouse as we know it today has evolved into American Culture as our first childhood embrace of home design, architecture and management.  Children adored the once aristocratic dollhouses along with the beloved Lincoln Log cabins and the miniature farms that soon came to be.

The Country Dollhouse is indeed the adorable dream home, but we’re perhaps most fond of the perennial gardens that surround it. At the end of a day outdoors,  retire inside and enjoy the wood floors, ceilings, antique dovetailed log walls and views of the country from all angles.

Admire the whitetail deer passing by the pond in addition to many species of smaller residents such as foxes, squirrels, rabbits, frogs and turtles.  Geese migrate and thrive year round on the nearby New River and Bluestone Lake.  Owls, eagles, hawks, robins, cardinals, blue birds and all types of feathered friends are right at your doorstep.  Often you will see butterflies and honeybees that are attracted to the beautiful lavender thistle. The nectar and pollen of native thistles are incredibly valuable food sources to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.  Some songbirds also feed on thistle seeds. These nectar sources help support pollinators year-round, and can help to increase yields for many valuable crops.

The gambrel roof barn measures 30′ x 30′, with loft totaling 1800 s/f.  The barn includes a traditional overhang for equipment or a run in-run out shelter for horses or livestock.  Electricity is wired to the barn which has a handy workshop space.
