Here, nestled above the Greenbrier River, is the Big Canoe Cabin where your 110-Foot Riverfront Beach connects at the entrance of Bacon Falls Rapids along the Greenbrier River. Situated on 4.7 acres of land with gorgeous views. If you’re looking to hang your “Gone Fishing” sign, this is your dream destination. Have your morning coffee on the cozy porch and watch the river go by. When everyone’s ready to head to the river, grab your gear and go. From incredible trophy fishing to swimming and tubing, kayaking and, of course canoeing, your days spent in the water will float by. In the evenings head over to the fire pit for marshmallow roasting, or simply relax on the swing.

In today’s nonstop, fast-paced world, time is our most precious gift. Big Canoe’s location provides more time spent breathing clean mountain air, casting a line, lounging on the beach, reading a book and sharing moments worth remembering with the ones who matter most. The surrounding area offers a small town atmosphere providing extraordinary, friendly and enriching lifestyle.

Harmony and natural beauty of the land with the desire to be by the water make this a blue ribbon property. Location of the cabin and several building sites are all out of the flood plain earning this property a 5 Star status. It doesn’t get much better than a blue ribbon and 5 stars, or does it?

THE GREENBRIER RIVER

The Greenbrier River is one of the most charming rivers in West Virginia. At more than 150 miles long, it has great rural scenery, rich history, and excellent fishing. The Greenbrier was a Native American warpath and had a big role in the development of region’s early timber industry. Today, it offers some of the best recreation opportunities in the state, including very productive fishing spots. The smallmouth fishing in the Greenbrier is world-class. On a typical fishing day, you’ll see expert fly fishers tossing hand-tied flies from guided rafts, novices wading with push-button casting rods, and everyone in between. If you like to wade, you’ll find plenty of access points in and along the Greenbrier River. If you prefer to float, the river has great paddling on one of the longest undammed rivers in the east.

Your very own Natural Water Slide on the River provided by Mother Nature!
A natural water slide along the Greenbrier Slate River Slide Falls is one of the few waterfalls that looks exactly how it sounds. Nestled deep within the Slate River Gorge the river pours over a flat, mostly even piece of slate, fanning over the wide rock, making an overlarge water slide.

Falls on the Greenbrier River
The two most aggressive sets of Falls on the Greenbrier River are Class III Bacon Falls to the North, and Lindsay’s Slide to the South. Both falls are located here on the Greenbrier River at Big Canoe Cabin. A paddlers slalom for adventure seekers. Bacon Falls is the first rapid below Talcott, where the flow channels on the right against a cliff face. At higher flows it can be skirted on the left. Lindsey Slide is a riverwide slanted ledge that can have strong holes in places. Shallower on river left. Wildlife includes deer, bear, foxes, bobcat, eagles, hawks, cranes many fish species and small game. A perfect destination for paddlers eager to run the falls starting at Talcott over Bacon Falls and Lindsay’s Slide (named for Bacon’s Grist Mill). Several quiet deep water holes are found at the property and countless locations along the river. Wade out along the rock strata or take the plunge in your very own Big Canoe, Kayak or Raft.

Float the Greenbrier
A float trip from Talcott Boat ramp to the property is an easy 2 hours of fun in the sun. Many locations are available upstream and downstream offering public access for take out / put in vehicle parking and launching. For a longer float trip take a ride down the park service Kayak Chutes at the Fort Springs park and boat launch located above Alderson. Downstream WillowWood Access trailer and launch / take out is near Hinton. These are only a few of the park service access points along the Greenbrier River. Countless river trips or a casual swim in the clear crisp water are just a preview of the adventures to be discovered at Big Canoe Cabin on the Greenbrier. See you at the River !

History of Bacon’s Mill
The Bacon’s Mill was built by Jacob Fluke in about 1833. The mill was a Grist Mill and a Carding Machine. The exact location is unknown other than it was located at the Falls of Greenbrier below Talcott. The mill was patronized for miles around. People came to purchase flour or have other grains such as corn and wheat ground. The Carding Machine was a much desired operation used to make wool and cotton into rolls. The main function of the carding machine was to separate the clumps of wool or cotton by combing the fibers into “fleece”. This fleece was then spun into “yarn” by the women of the house on the old fashioned spinning wheels. In 1861 Fluke’s Mill burned down. It was at this time that Robert Bacon joined Mr. Fluke in co-partnership of the famous mill known to this day as “Bacon’s Mill”.
