New River Gorge National Park and Preserve

Tourism officials estimate visitor traffic has more than doubled since the park was established two years ago. Grandview (National Park Area)

One of the chief destinations in the park, Grandview is named for its panoramic clifftop views of the New River Gorge. The gorge here is at its widest and deepest. The main overlook is among the most visited locations in the park. Since 1974, the summer outdoor dramas “Honey in the Rock” and “Hatfields & McCoys” have attracted visitors to its Cliffside Amphitheatre.

Glade Creek Trails  (National Park Area)

Maintained by the National Park Service, the Glade Creek trail system includes more than 15 miles of forest trails that shadow the creek and visit wetlands, waterfalls, and some of the most remote reaches in the national park. Glade is also a beloved trout stream, and its swimming holes are popular in summer. Back-country trails wander into a forest that many visitors have yet to explore.
